Chatsworth House sits in the heart of the Peak District with several pretty towns within a 10-mile radius, where you’ll find at least half a dozen country house hotels and B&Bs to stay in. Take for example, the pretty village of Baslow which is on the estate itself, Rowsley where the River Wye flows into the River Derwent or the historic spa towns of Matlock or Buxton.

One of the Peak District’s most popular visitor attractions, the historic Chatsworth House is a stately home in Derbyshire. The seat of the Duke of Devonshire, it has been home to the Cavendish family since 1549 and has been passed down through 16 generations of the Cavendish family.

The house is a magnificent example of historic architecture, while inside it is a feast of art and sculpture masterpieces spanning 4,000 years, from ancient Roman and Egyptian sculpture, and masterpieces by Rembrandt, Reynolds and Veronese, to work by outstanding modern artists, including Lucian Freud, Edmund de Waal and David Nash.

Meanwhile, the gardens are also a treat to visit. With its historic and modern waterworks and sculptures, and its Victorian rock garden, there is something for everyone in the 105-acre Chatsworth Garden. Finally, the working farmyard and woodland playground with a rope park and trampoline, slides, water and sand play are a source of endless fascination and entertainment for children.

With all that to enjoy throughout the year, it is little wonder that many guests at hotels near Chatsworth House choose to visit, and see it as a top destination to feature in their holiday or short break.
