Good Hotel Guide Review
‘A wonderful place for a stay in the Peak District’, the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire’s Derbyshire hotel offers a taste of country house living a stroll from their magnificent Elizabethan pile. Views across the Chatsworth Estate commend some standard bedrooms. Larger rooms have pieces of the fine art and antiques that are dispersed throughout the property, perhaps a four-poster. Rooms in the coach house have smart bathrooms with bath and walk-in shower. All have fresh milk in a mini-fridge, Chatsworth biscuits, luxury toiletries. A reader this year was disappointed that the duplex Redesdale Suite had no estate view, and found road noise was a problem through an open window. Others were more enthused by their choice. ‘Our room was fabulously comfortable, very tastefully furnished, with lovely country views.’ In the Gallery restaurant, menus include dishes such as Derbyshire beef fillet, cheek, truffle gnocchi, nasturtium, onion, or vegetarian options. On a day when only fish and chips will do, eat more casually and cheaply in the Garden Room. ‘Staff VERY well trained, nothing too much trouble … Expensive but worth every penny.’
