Hotel du Vin & Bistro Tunbridge Wells

Hotel du Vin & Bistro Tunbridge Wells

TUNBRIDGE WELLS

Close to the station, a hotel and restaurant inside a Grade II-listed 18th-century sandstone mansion. Intimate and clubby, there is an open fire in the bar, and Gallic-influenced dishes in the informal restaurant; alfresco dining on the terrace. Modern bedrooms (some overlooking Calverley Park) have plenty of perks: a capsule coffee machine, fluffy bathrobes, chic toiletries for indulgent bathing. Within walking distance of the Pantiles.

Canterbury Cathedral Lodge

Canterbury Cathedral Lodge

Canterbury

Within an architect-designed complex, this contemporary hotel enjoys a ‘prime position’ in the ‘serene grounds’ of the UNESCO-designated World Heritage site. At breakfast in the busy refectory or on the terrace, a ‘small buffet’ and ‘well-served’ hot dishes lay heavenly foundations for the day. Guests have free admission to the cathedral and its precincts, and discounts at local restaurants, ‘many within easy walking distance’.

How to find a hotel wedding venue in Kent

Famously known as the garden of England, Kent has a reputation for its beauty and its easy to see why.  Home of Charles Dickens in the quintessentially British seaside town of Broadstairs, home of Tracey Emin in Margate, and destination of London’s most fashionable who frequent the coastal town of Whitstable, Kent is a fabulously convenient location to reach as well as being a charming place to get married.

Coastal borders and a landscape of gentle hills, farmland and country estate, peppered with English vineyards that benefit from the area’s comparatively mild climate are all part of the fabric of this beautiful part of England.

Bordering Greater London, East Sussex and Surrey, it can be judged by equally charming neighbours, and is home to architecture that tells the story of England’s rich history in the form of icons such as Canterbury Cathedral, Rochester Cathedral and Anne Boleyn’s childhood home Hever Castle.

This gentile part of the world is also known for its refined hospitality, reflected in its array of hotels that are perfect for weddings and celebrations.  The Crescent Turner perhaps, which is named for the artist who famously immortalised the area in his paintings, or Read’s, a Georgian manor house on the way to Dover with a generous flourish of antiques and swathes of dramatic curtains.  The idea of getting married somewhere so utterly charming before heading on to the Channel Tunnel and hot legging it to Paris for your honeymoon is surely the stuff that romantic novels are made of?
