Part of the Cotswold Hills and the valley of the River Severn, Gloucestershire is certainly a part of the UK that could claim the title as one of the most beautiful areas in England. A swirling mass of history, culture, bucolic vistas, chocolate box villages and excellent food, it’s a delightful area in which to get married, with hotels reflecting the richness of the area’s hospitality.
Cotswold stone is of course a leitmotif in the area that defines its style, and country house hotels that fuse rustic charm and regency elegance are a classic reason to get married in this part of the world. For all its countryside locations however, it’s towns and cities are filled with medieval style inns that bring a real sense of occasion to a wedding day, such as Kings Head Hotel in Cirencester.
What hotels in Gloucestershire tend to do extremely well is combine elegance alongside environments that cater to all guests, including children, and of course family-friendly hotels for those spring and summer weddings surrounded by the beauty of the British countryside are the stuff that movies are made of. Which of course is very much the case in this part of the world with the likes of War Horse, Harry Potter, Dr Who and Vanity Fair all filmed in the area.
Last, but by no means least, Gloucestershire is superbly located to provide the best of wedding feasts, with local suppliers featured in hotel restaurants and famed for their produce in the immediate and surrounding area. From clotted cream to cheese, eggs, home grown fruit, and even beer and cider, it is a wonderful example of the rewards of buying local.
