Good Hotel Guide Review
In a Grade I listed Georgian crescent to rival Bath’s, this spa hotel was launched in 2020 after a 17-year transformation. It was worth the wait. ‘The building’s scale is particularly impressive, as is the development and refurbishment,’ write trusted readers. Bedrooms and suites blend period elegance and contemporary comforts. Cocktails and craft beers are dispensed in a Phileas Fogg-style bar with open fire, while the restaurant serves ‘very good’ classic British dishes with a modern spin – maybe loin of Cumberland venison, lemon sole, or vegan options. The staff are ‘friendly, helpful and professional’. Mineral-rich thermal spring water feeds one of the spa pools. (Stephen and Pauline Glover)
