Good Hotel Guide Review
‘Pleasant, quiet and convenient’, this historic building (‘At the Peacock’) belonged to the Benedictine order and was rebuilt in 1639 as a baroque house. On Kampa island, near Charles Bridge, it has ‘easy access to both sides of the city’. Antique furniture, crystal chandeliers, works of art and an impressive staircase with stone pillars, combine with modern comforts (sauna, spa bath, etc). Some have stained-glass windows and views of Prague Castle, and some have fireplaces. Staff are ‘helpful, friendly’, but one visitor, a hotelier himself, was ‘amazed that they ran everything without any sign of management over four days. Our rooms were attractively decorated; we had a lovely castle view. Our son’s room had no window — but no traffic disturbance either. Breakfast was a good buffet, but the restaurant is open for events only.’ The Royal Ricc, Brno, is also in the KK group.
