North Yorkshire: from B&Bs to country houses

. .

A spectacular 40% of the county is covered by National Parks, which gives an idea of its rural splendour. Hike, walk, roam with the dog, and return to your abode in the evening for a hearty meal and the chance to relive your adventures with your travel companions.

The different aspects of North Yorkshire each carry their own character. York is known for its spectacular Cathedral, it’s history, so vital to the British monarchy, and its beauty - a tangle of quaint cobbled streets and high end shops. The district of Harrogate is awash with castles, abbeys, beautiful countryside and handsome tree-lined boulevards while Herriot County has the grand sweeping hills and rich valleys of the world famous North York Moors, described as 'God's Own Country’.

Do not of course, forget the Yorkshire Coast. From tiny fishing villages clinging to rocky cliffs to glorious stretches of white sand, it is arguably home to the county’s best fish and chips which taste even better after a brazen dip in the sea. The likes of The Star Inn at Harome is a particularly good example of the area’s hospitality and charm - excellent food and a rustic demeanour - or perhaps visit Lastingham Grange for a traditional country house on the edge of the North York Moors.
