Manchester is celebrated as one of England’s most interesting cities to visit, offering heritage, culture and lots of contemporary attractions as well. It’s past as a powerhouse of industry is very much in evidence in the form of its architecture while its vibrant energy heralds its ongoing importance and appeal for those who choose to visit.

Having played a huge role in the industrial revolution, Manchester is a city-lover’s paradise. Its tradition for innovation and ideas continues today, and it’s also a passionate city – not least when it comes to football, making a trip to Old Trafford to watch a match a real treat.

Iconic landmarks and museums like the Manchester Museum are absolutely worth a visit, while those who fancy a little retail therapy mustn’t miss the Trafford Centre. Meanwhile, Salford Quays, which was once the centre point of its industrial past has been revived and is now a hub of media and culture. Golf fans will enjoy a trip to Heaton Park, complete with an 18-hole golf course as well as plenty of activities for families such as a boating lake, animal centre and playgrounds.

Food and drink are a big part of the experience, and so too is its clubbing scene. For those who fancy a night out, you can’t do much better than Manchester.

With all of this in mind, Manchester is a superb destination for a mini break or weekend getaway, whether it’s with friends or on a romantic escape. Hotels in the area reflect all of the best bits that the city has to offer: heritage, good food, drink, culture and perhaps most of all, a warm welcome as well.
