We’ve found your perfect wedding venue in Yorkshire
Rolling hills and bucolic vistas, hearty food, beautiful villages and perhaps some of the most magnificent historic architecture in the country, Yorkshire is a cherished part of the UK and an idyllic spot for a wedding both country and city.
Known for its Roman and Viking heritage, Yorkshire has played a role in British culture for thousands of years with its Norman castles, medieval abbeys and two national parks. The likes of Fountains Abbey which has gained an almost mystical quality since Henry VIII’s dissolution of the monasteries, is just one of the area’s prized locations (and filming spot of one of the best known scenes from The History Boys). The 13th-century York Minster cathedral, Tudor houses and medieval walls are also a valued part of the landscape.
Its not all country views however, Yorkshire is also known for its beautiful towns and cities, not least of all, York itself. A walled city founded by the ancient Romans, it is flanked by the River Ouse and has famously played its role in monarchical history, so whether you have your wedding in town at the likes of Bar Convent (formerly a school for girls in 1686) or out in one of the beautiful country house hotels such as Middlethorpe Hall which is owned by the National Trust and also has its own spa, it’s a spectacularly beautiful part of the world in which to get married.
The icing on the cake of course is the food that Yorkshire has to offer, and they certainly now how to cater. Naturally, no meal in this part of the world would be complete without a Yorkshire pudding and as tradition goes it’s best served with roast beef, potatoes and lashings of gravy – all you need to do is choose between country pub or fine dining style.
