Good Hotel Guide Review

If the Borrowers were to open a hotel, it would probably be something like Nick and Charlotte Dent’s Georgian farmhouse, filled with upcycled objets trouvés. A vintage milk float outside hints at the Grange’s past as a model farm while elsewhere, churns, handcarts, seed spreaders and weighing scales have been pressed into service. In your 'very comfortable' bedroom you might find a dressmaker’s form, a trumpet bedside lamp, an ancient dial telephone… The style is fashionably shabby chic. There are rustic rooms in converted stables, with beams and exposed stone; a little hideaway in a former piggery. Menus for vegans and omnivores are of a gastropub nature – maybe beef fillet, wild mushroom purée, fondant potatoes, purple carrots, celeriac, bone marrow and red wine jus; ravioli, burger. The food is ‘very tasty’, a reader related, but a bit heavy, with starters ‘more like a small main course’. We hear no such complaints from canine guests about the doggy afternoon tea, the breakfast sausage, the complimentary tennis ball. Staff are ‘friendly and extremely hard-working’. The pool and gym are a bonus. See also sister hotel Shieldaig Lodge, Gairloch.
