Good Hotel Guide Review
A return to the Guide for this honeyed-stone village pub, which had a lockdown makeover under enthusiastic new owners. Bedrooms have good fabrics, a Roberts radio, 100 Acres toiletries, views over gently rolling countryside. Coach-house rooms are dog friendly. In the teal, flagstone-floored bar and restaurant, pub classics sit alongside dishes such as glazed pork cheeks (from free-range Story Pig farm nearby) with white onion cream, crispy onions, crackling and sweetheart cabbage. Vegetables arrive by wheelbarrow courtesy of a local grower. Apex beers are from the microbrewery behind. There are steak, fish and fire nights, and fresh-baked croissants at breakfast, with a small charge for cooked items.
