Good Hotel Guide Review
Built of stone from the Purbeck hills, this 200-year-old house on the edge of the village stands in formal gardens, which are floodlit at night. The family-run hotel is owned by Karenza and Ken Mathews, their daughter, Jennifer, and her husband, Jonathan; they are ‘always around, busy looking after their guests’. The bedrooms are individually decorated in both traditional and modern styles; some have an original fireplace, others a balcony with views of the Dorset hills, or patio doors on to the garden – ‘perfect for a summer stay’. Chef Simon Clewlow’s award-winning seasonal dishes are served in a candlelit dining room. It is 'quite delightful', say readers, and well placed for Sherborne. 'One of the nicest hotels we have stayed in for a long time.' (Roy Davis, and others)
