The Hassell family’s 'reasonably priced' country-house hotel and ‘beautiful’ spa in wooded grounds near Dartmoor impresses readers with its laudable service and ‘very warm welcome’. ‘Our dog even received a welcome pack with walk maps and biscuits’. Rooms are decorated in restful shades, with antique pieces and a sleigh bed. Most have a bath and an overhead or walk-in shower. After a game of croquet, guests can take a cream tea on the lawn. In the spacious dining room, where far-reaching views spread to Dartmoor’s Hay Tor and the surrounding hills, meals are 'imaginative and tasty'.
