Good Hotel Guide Review

Enjoying an 'ideal' location opposite Clifton Down, this twin-bayed Georgian merchant’s house B&B sits atop one of Bristol’s highest hills, with panoramic views. Choose a dual-aspect loft suite and look out to the fore across the down and, to the rear, across the city to the Mendips. Owned by Adam Dorrien Smith, it is an uber-stylish mix of period and contemporary furniture, with a palette of taupe and duck-egg blue, deep teal and charcoal, coir flooring, velvet armchairs, perhaps a velvet-covered sleigh bed. Everything is tastefully uncluttered, while still managing to be warm and welcoming. Order a cocktail and settle into the sofa, or take it to the rooftop terrace or your room. All rooms have a fridge, a Roberts radio, waffle gowns and slippers, Ren toiletries; some bathrooms have a copper roll-top bath and large walk-in shower. ‘The breakfast buffet is a highlight’, including a wide range of fresh juices, breads, homemade compotes and fruits. For a small supplement, you can enjoy a full English or vegetarian, avocado on toast, smoked salmon with scrambled eggs. The ‘friendly, helpful’ staff stand down at 8 pm, but the restaurants of Clifton are 'easily accessible'.
