This former coaching inn in the heart of Cowbridge, with its fashionable shops (and just a few miles from the Wales Coast Path, too), is popular with both locals and visitors. The panelled lounge and grill bar (spot the medieval fireplace) buzz with chatter; when the sun’s out, find a table in the courtyard. You can also eat in the atmospheric Cellars restaurant; its menus of modern dishes will cater for all tastes and appetites, with light plates and heartier mains featuring Welsh produce. Up-to-date, stylishly decorated bedrooms, with bright throws and feature wallpapers, have Welsh toiletries; some can accommodate a dog or a family.
