The farmhouse on the Evans family's working farm has been elegantly styled with wallpaper and furnishings faithful to its Georgian origins, while outbuildings have been used to create more rustic-chic suites. One dual-aspect house room has a king-size four-poster, a log-burner in an original fireplace, an in-room double-ended copper bath. An attic suite runs the length of the house. The food is ‘excellent (though not high-falutin’), with at least five to nine vegetables served with every main course’. Typical dishes might include venison loin with blackberry sauce, or chicken ballotine with basil mash. ‘Omelettes were a highlight at breakfast.’ Beaches, the coastal path and Britain’s smallest city are a short drive away. Excellent (though not high-falutin') food with at least 5 to 9 different vegetables served with every main course. Wild mushrooms with pine nuts made a tasty first course. Although the menu did not change much over the five days we stayed, there were plenty of options so it was possible to find something new to our taste for each course each day. The omelettes with a choice of fillings were a highlight of breakfast. Our room (No. 2) had a huge bathroom and a separate lobby for reading which was helpful as the bedside lighting was dim. The grounds are not particularly extensive and to one side are the modern buildings of the owners' farm, but the approach is well provided with trees and birdsong. Beyond on all sides lie open fields. The immediate walking is not so good but a short drive leads to the Coastal path and several beaches.
