Good Hotel Guide Review
Close to the city centre, a Jacobean-style Victorian villa sitting above a manicured front garden, combines with Hampton House across the road as a ‘really fantastic hotel’. Formerly The Dunstane Houses, it is now part of upmarket Roseate Hotels and Resorts. Bedrooms, ranging from ‘petite’ to suites, blend contemporary comfort and period style. A first-floor luxury room was ‘huge, with a lovely copper roll-top bath tub within the bay window’. You can take afternoon tea outside, or graze on small plates, soup, sandwiches, fish and chips, from an all-day menu in the relaxing ambience of the Dunstane Restaurant and Bar. A three-choice, set-price menu is available at night. A breakfast ‘of the highest order’ brings haggis, Ayrshire bacon, tattie scones. (Nigel Mackintosh)
