‘Just off affluent Westbourne Grove’, this Victorian pub has been redesigned ‘in an outdoorsy style’ for Cubitt House (see The Orange, The Grazing Goat). Four boutique bedrooms have hand-printed wallpapers, original features, modern artworks. Walk in to find aged timber floors, a horseshoe bar and seafood counter, ‘an invitingly gorgeous conservatory’, a ‘vast area with leather banquettes’, and ‘lovely courtyard’. Our inspectors ate from a Mediterranean-inspired menu with few vegetarian options. ‘Gnocchi with gorgonzola, courgette, chilli and preserved lemon was top quality’, though ‘with no discernible lemon’. Grilled duck breast, confit leg, courgette, tomatoes, chilli and basil was ‘cooked well, but lacked vegetables’. Service was hit and miss, but, ‘overall, a wonderful place for outdoor eating’.
