Good Hotel Guide Review
With beams, cottage-style bedrooms and ‘beautiful gardens’ running down to the River Stour, this 16th-century Cotswold manor house is full of charm. So, too, are its owners, Jane and William Pusey, who are ‘excellent hosts, bringing afternoon tea on the terrace when we had settled in’, reports a reader. After visiting nearby Stratford-upon-Avon or walking in the Cotswolds, the riverside gardens are the perfect place to relax. On cooler days, stay in the ‘very comfortable’ drawing room with its fire, plump sofas, piles of books, antiques and contemporary art. Plants and family photographs make it feel invitingly homely. ‘Lovely and light and airy’ bedrooms have views over the garden and river or a pretty cottage. With their low ceilings, the odd beam, light colours, patterned curtains and cushions, and well-loved antiques, they feel like guest rooms in a friend’s charming house, rather than in a B&B. Breakfasts, elegantly served at a polished communal table, are ‘generous; we did not have to find anywhere for lunch!’ Jane advises on nearby dinner options including The Howard Arms at Ilmington (see entry).
