Good Hotel Guide Review
Spectacular views across Loch Tummel to the iconic peak of Schiehallion can be seen from this ‘characterful and quirky old coaching inn’ ten miles from Pitlochry in Perthshire’s big-tree country. Hands-on owners Jade and Alice Calliva ‘work incredibly hard to see that everyone is wined, dined and accommodated in the greatest comfort, style and good humour’. It is a supremely relaxing place to stay, say readers. Each room has its own character, mixing hand-picked antiques and artwork with modish paint finishes. Delicate toile de Jouy curtains frame a loch view from one bedroom; another has a sheepskin rug on bare floorboards, folding canvas chairs, a shelf of books. All are supplied with home-made fudge and whisky on arrival, an espresso machine, Scottish Fine Soaps toiletries, robes and biodegradable slippers. An appealing, unpretentious menu offers dishes such as pan-fried sea trout with Scottish asparagus, Dunkeld handmade beef burger, or mushroom and chestnut en croute with garlic mashed potatoes. A full Scottish breakfast includes local sausages and bacon, Stornoway black pudding, Kilduncan eggs. ‘This was our third visit, and it has got better every time.’
