Good Hotel Guide Review

You don’t have to blow a fortune to stay at this ‘relaxed yet refined’ hotel in converted barns, the former home of Langham Glass, and featuring many charming nods to its heritage. Created by Sam Cutmore-Scott, ‘the style is artfully mismatched, with old car seats and upcycled pipework’, say our inspectors. In Ivy’s lounge (after Sam’s granny), ‘an enormous stained-glass window features Norfolk birds, plus a couple of canaries’ to honour Norwich City FC. ‘Decadent sofas cry out to be slouched in with something from the wine-vending machine.’ The restaurant, Stanley’s (Sam’s granddad), is ‘full of character, with exposed brick, beams, wood floor, copper tables’. You can dine here on wood-fired steak, or Blakeney squash with quince, mozzarella and truffle. There is a tempting all-day bar menu: eat indoors or in a courtyard with fire pit and water features (the mac ’n’ cheese is recommended). Bedrooms have a heated oak floor, complimentary cocktails, fresh milk and goodies in a fridge, an espresso machine, Irene Forte products. ‘They are very rustic chic, many with a modern four-poster; some with a bath as well as a shower.’ It is residents only, so ‘never felt crowded’.
