Good Hotel Guide Review
The three Greenall brothers who bought this Victorian pub in 2021 have refurbished it in keeping with its rustic charm while giving it a subtle contemporary nudge. On a country estate and organic farm in the Barle Valley, in the heart of Exmoor National Park, it is all a country pub should be, with log burners, bric-a-brac, farm-to-fork dining. Daily menus showcase grass-fed organic meat, home-grown produce, day-boat fish from Bideford and foraged ingredients in dishes such as potato, butter bean and wild garlic soup; slow-cooked beef cottage pie; tempura skate, sorrel and wild garlic mayo. Bedrooms are traditional, with botanical prints, a comfy chair or two. Walking, fishing and country sports are on the doorstep.
