Good Hotel Guide Review
Robert and Helen Hicks’s restaurant-with-rooms, crafted from an 18th-century manse on the waterfront, is full of charming surprises. Beyond a plain white exterior, the house (named after a type of sailing vessel) is lushly decorated with dark parquet floors, velvet and leather seating, and imaginative wallpapers. Tweed blankets and landscape views across Loch Broom bring the Highlands into three smart bedrooms upstairs, each supplied with bathrobes and an espresso machine. Along a corridor, discover a hoard of treats in an honesty bar and ‘Sweet Shop’. In the restaurant, short menus create anticipation for chef David Smith’s fine Modern Scottish gourmet dishes. The owners’ gin can be sampled in the intimate Tasting Room.
