Good Hotel Guide Review
The elegance is timeless, the style is Jazz Age glamour, the feel is New York fun – all of which makes The Beaumont, in the heart of Mayfair, one of London’s leading luxury hotels. Art Deco interiors of glossy panelling, opaque-glass lampshades and mirrored pillars together with black-and-white photographs of legendary stars create the feel of a private members’ club. Staff are ‘suited and booted’, yet the hotel has ‘a warmth’ and ‘light-heartedness’ that makes it ideal ‘for a romantic escape’. Newly refurbished bedrooms, designed by Thierry Despont, are sleek with 1930s-style furniture, floor-to-ceiling windows and mosaic-and-marble bathrooms. Even entry-level rooms are spacious; all have complimentary snacks and soft drinks. Take coffee on the terrace, afternoon tea in Gatsby’s Room, cocktails in the walnut-panelled American bar before dining in the glamorous Colony Grill restaurant. With its red-leather booths and speakeasy vibe, it features a New York-influenced menu of classic dishes such as grilled Dover sole and steak tartare. Breakfasts are decadent affairs including muffins, pancakes, salt beef hash, and eggs how you want them, as well as a full grill.
