Good Hotel Guide Review
Smarter than the average Bear, this handsome bow-fronted Georgian coaching inn with a distinctive bear statue on a balcony is a fun hotel and local hangout, revamped in contemporary style. The best bedroom, Aloysius, has a walk-in rainfall shower and freestanding copper bath. Dog-friendly Paddington has a modern chaise longue in the window, a bright palette to appeal to homesick Peruvians. The seasonally changing dinner menu includes dishes such as flame-grilled free-range duck breast with cranberry sauce; burger and fries; a vegetarian option. Breakfast brings the full English or veggie; toasted banana bread, whipped mascarpone, berries and honey – and, we dare to hope, marmalade sandwiches.
