Good Hotel Guide Review
In a ‘beautiful setting’, with views stretching across the Dales, this family-run hotel in an Edwardian country house is on a quiet lane one mile from the town. Panelled walls, grand fireplaces and a billiard table in the library conjure up an era long past, but there is ’nothing stuffy here’, say readers. The 'courteous, friendly' staff make you feel at home straightaway. Hearty regional produce, in the spacious, modern restaurant, is used for the Yorkshire breakfasts, light lunches and daily changing evening menus; perhaps slow-cooked Wensleydale beef in Black Sheep ale. Bedrooms (with newly updated bathrooms) in the main house – some with a conservatory and garden access – in a side building, or in the courtyard, have a homely elegance and lovely outlooks.
