The name says it all: a place to skip along Camber Sands, enjoy backgammon in the bar, chill in the garden or relax with yoga – and with no children to disturb the peace. This beachside property has a chic, laid-back vibe with slouchy sofas, stripped-wood floors and designer rugs. Books line walls; there’s a fire in the snug; English wines are on the menu at the copper-topped bar. Monthly changing menus from chef Nico Fitzgerald reflect the locale: perhaps whole Rye Bay brill, lobster cooked over an open fire. Nico can rustle up a delicious beach 'take-out' for a day on the dunes, too. Bedrooms are all on the ground floor and most have a terrace and access to the garden. Decorated in soothing or nautical shades, with wood panelling, white-painted rafters and jazzy headboards, they have a breezy New England feel. The largest have freestanding baths; all have robes and books. ‘All-day’ elevenses and drinks at 5 pm are free; the Complete package also includes dinner and wellness classes. Breakfast on dishes such as Turkish poached eggs or buttermilk pancakes before heading out to the empty beach. ‘A very welcoming hotel with great staff.’
