Good Hotel Guide Review
Close to Loch Shiel, this old coaching inn has hosted travellers along the Road to the Isles since the 17th century. Today it is a hospitable small hotel run by ‘welcoming, helpful and kind’ hosts Ina and Kieron Kelly. Traditionally decorated bedrooms are on the first floor, under sloping ceilings, and are 'comfortable with decent pillows'. The best, with a Jacobean four-poster bed, is equipped with bathrobes, flowers and a decanter of whisky mac. Book ahead to dine on Kieron’s skilfully cooked six-course tasting menu in the panelled restaurant: his dishes highlight locally sourced ingredients such as fish and shellfish from the boats at Mallaig and 'superb venison'. Simpler fare is found in the Stage House bistro. 'The wine list is a triumph of value, buying and judgment.' (Ingle Dawson)
