Good Hotel Guide Review

In a ‘beautiful’ setting, Jan and Adam Moore’s dog-friendly country hotel in an 18th-century sporting lodge looks out over the hills and is surrounded by trees. Past fire-warmed sitting areas, ‘perfectly pleasant and comfortable’ bedrooms are supplied with home-made shortbread, fresh coffee and organic toiletries; a garden suite has a conservatory and private garden. Guests sensitive to noise (an A road runs close by) should ring in advance to discuss best room options. Dinner has good options for vegetarians and vegans; breakfast is ‘excellent’. Arm yourself with the hotel’s richly informative guide to walks before striding out, or just relax: a Finnish sauna cabin and hot tub are in the grounds.
