Good Hotel Guide Review
On the Islay Estate at the heart of an Inner Hebrides island famed for its malt whiskies, this stone-built Victorian hotel in ‘glorious gardens’ sits amid lochs, deserted beaches, and hills roamed by red and roe deer. Bedrooms in contemporary style have a restful palette. You can dine in Katie’s Bar, with its brightly coloured bucket chairs and log fire, or in the restaurant, on home-grown produce, estate game, lamb and beef, locally landed fish and shellfish – maybe Loch Gruinart oysters and ‘great venison’. Service is ‘friendly, courteous and professional’. The estate is a popular destination for shooting and fishing folk, while walkers can pick up trails nearby. (Katherine E Putnam)
