Good Hotel Guide Review
‘It would be beautiful in summer,’ said our inspectors, whose tour of this vineyard, on the slopes of the South Downs, was marred by rain. A spacious, ‘rustic country-style bedroom, incorporating the brickwork’ of an original barn, had a ‘large window overlooking the vines’, two shower rooms, an ‘amazing pressure shower’, underfloor heating. However, the room was overheated, with no way to control the temperature, and there was poor sound-proofing. A weekly changing menu included ‘a nicely balanced burrata salad’, pea and broad bean risotto, baked crottin, mint oil. ‘The lounge area was pleasant with a wood-burning stove.’ At breakfast, shakshuka was ‘very much enjoyed’. Idyllic days could be spent here in summer, with alfresco dining events, deli lunches and fizz.
