Good Hotel Guide Review
La Palma, the most north-westerly of the Canary Islands, is small and volcanic, less busy than its larger neighbour Tenerife. This parador was built in local style in 1999, on the coast outside the island’s capital, near the airport, to replace an existing establishment. ‘It has a quiet setting, with views towards Santa Cruz and the wide horizon of the sea,’ says the nominator. ‘The staff are efficient, and most of them are also friendly.’ Not all rooms have good views, however, and soundproofing can be poor. The large, white building has ‘a beautiful open courtyard with plants and small trees, an attractive drawing room and other well-furnished seating areas’. Canarian dishes are served in a ‘delightful restaurant’ with a panelled ceiling. The buffet breakfast is in a separate room. The swimming pool, surrounded by lawns with parasols and loungers, faces the sea.
