Good Hotel Guide Review
In a ‘spectacular, albeit isolated’ setting, this purpose-built parador is ‘excellent and inexpensive’, says a visitor endorsing ‘with enthusiasm’ its entry in the Guide. It is the only building within Tenerife’s moonscape Cañadas del Teide national park, 2,000 metres above sea level. Other guests wrote of ‘courteous, friendly staff’. The low mountain lodge has dark wood interiors; the lounge/bar has a log fire and big sofas. Bedrooms, ‘simple yet elegant’, have polished wooden floors. ‘Our bed was enormous; the brightly lit bathroom had marble floor and eccentric shower.’ Dinner has a Canarian/cosmopolitan menu: ‘Try the rabbit, cod fish cakes, asparagus and lamb, and the local red and white wines.’ The buffet breakfast, ‘well above Spanish average’, includes tortilla and fresh fruits. Tour coaches come to the attached cafeteria, but the parador and its swimming area are off limits to day visitors. The night sky, free from light spill, is ‘stunning’. The hotel has a Telescopico Dobsonian, ‘but you can wander a few hundred metres and be awe-struck’. ‘Unless you are an avid walker, there is not much to do.’
