Good Hotel Guide Review
Elaine Packer’s charming farmhouse B&B overlooks Hadrian’s Wall near Birdoswald, one of the Roman monument’s best-preserved forts. Visitors praise the welcome they receive at this Georgian building filled with ‘every comfort’. The traditionally decorated bedrooms are supplied with bathrobes, freshly ground coffee and a jar of biscuits; at teatime, there are hot drinks and home-made cake. On cool days, browse the library by the wood-burning stove; when the weather’s fine, sit in the beautiful walled garden and watch the light change over the North Pennines and the Lakeland Fells beyond. ‘So peaceful.’ Breakfast on ‘gigantic portions’ of home-cooked Northumbrian fare, ordered the night before.
