Bedrooms, in a residents’ garden, ‘are super-spacious and light, styled to within an inch of their lives’, each named after a music or movie legend, with blown-up black-and-white images. ‘Expect in-room roll-top baths, iron beds, leather chests, exposed brickwork and slick, modern bathroom.’ Indulgences include an espresso machine, mini fridge, complimentary G&T, luxury toiletries. Andress has a steam room and a private walled garden with spa bath and log burner. Armstrong can sleep a family of four. What a wonderful world! There is a welcoming bar, while the restaurant, with its ‘stripped-back style’, has a modern café ambience, with pop music playing. The short menus include Brancaster oysters, flame-grilled steaks and burgers, veggie options. ‘The langoustine brioche with slaw was divine.’ There are cook-outs and occasional live music in the courtyard. ‘If you like traditional hotels and restaurants, this isn’t for you… I loved it.’
