‘Fabulous, far-reaching’ views spread across the Severn valley from this hotel in extensive grounds high above the Malvern hills. The refurbished Georgian dower house has contemporary public spaces plus a collection of smart bedrooms in the main house, neighbouring Beech Cottage and the Coach House, some with a patio or small balcony. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the restaurant frame a rural panorama that stretches to the Cotswolds, a fine backdrop for Rob Mason’s modern cooking at lunch and dinner. ‘The food and wine are excellent.’ Casual meals and drinks may also be taken alfresco on the covered terrace – all the better to exult in big vistas. The Elgar route is close by. ‘Very comfortable – we have stayed twice.’
