Good Hotel Guide Review
With quiz nights, a jukebox, a well-patronised bar and a choice of dining spaces, the 18th-century Royal Oak has a lively community feel. 'Lovely building, characterful beer garden,' noted our inspectors. Bedrooms, quietly tucked away across the courtyard in a converted outbuilding, have a modern rustic look of stripped-wood floors, neat wooden furniture and breezy blues and greys. Some are on the cosy side, three are dog-friendly, two have seating areas, one of which is a striking affair with open rafters, mezzanine and in-room bath. Sample one of the local real ales or maybe a signature cocktail before dining, either in the courtyard, the convivial bar with its upcycled furniture or in the upstairs restaurant below the rafters. Food is 'simple, nicely presented' but a burger was on the dry side.
