Best mates and hip pizza-makers Harry Henriques and Fred Hicks, known locally as Baz and Fred (see The Stump, Cirencester), refurbished this creeper-swathed 16th-century coaching inn set in a tourist-free Cotswold village in 2020. Beams, settles and log fires mix with teal paintwork and poster art. Bedrooms blend original features and period furniture with contemporary chic. All have a coffee machine, Bramley toiletries. One has a modern four-poster and free-standing slipper bath. A garden suite with patio has a roll-top bath and walk-in shower. Creative burgers are the speciality here, vegan, veggie or meaty, alongside appetising small plates and mains such as pork chops with pommes anna.
