Good Hotel Guide Review

Where Exmoor meets the Bristol Channel, this foodie retreat that oozes personality and style in its eclectic rooms is 'probably as good as it gets for a small hotel', write readers. 'The food is up there with many Michelin-starred restaurants.' Co-owner Cindy Siu has created quirky interiors, with Italian and English antiques and finds, artworks, subtle paint shades, a Murano glass chandelier, a vintage Brionvega radiogram. Each bedroom has its own style. Santa Maria, facing the sea across a car park, is ‘very large, with a four-poster and huge bay window’, a freestanding bath and walk-in shower. ‘Our bedroom was a good size, with an electric shower in a smallish but adequate bathroom.’ All have posh toiletries and fresh-baked cookies. Cindy's business partner, Pio Catemario di Quadri, cooks a 'quite exceptional' no-choice menu that avoids food waste, using ingredients from foraging, the kitchen garden and local produce. ‘Gosh, the food was amazing. In three nights no dish disappointed.’ ‘Every evening was good, but the cherrywood-smoked lamb was remarkable.’ The hosts are ‘very much in evidence’. Expensive, but worth it.
