Good Hotel Guide Review

Every painting, sculpture and piece of furniture feels cherished and chosen at John Edward Joyce’s Victorian country mansion in landscaped gardens. Mantelpieces are crowded with Irish Delft figurines, a jug picked up in Poland, a motley herd of elephants. Vases brim with flowers and artwork crowds walls painted in heritage shades. Traditional-style bedrooms, either in the main house with its hand-carved oak staircase, and in the old schoolhouse wing, have fabrics and wallpaper by Zoffany, Jane Churchill, Cole & Son. All are supplied with Handmade Soap Co toiletries, while an accessible room has doors opening on to the garden. The staff are friendly and enthusiastic, and are only too happy to advise on places to see and things to do. In the deep-blue restaurant with wedding-cake plaster ceiling, Angel Pirev’s dishes burst with the freshness of the kitchen garden and orchard. They might include orzo pasta risotto with spinach purée and oyster mushrooms, or Guineafowl with buttermilk cream sauce, tarragon oil and braised, honey-roasted carrots. Breakfast might bring smoked salmon with potato, crème fraîche, and eggs from pampered hens.

Comments about The Mustard Seed at Echo Lodge

We spent three nights an could not have done better. A splendid hotel with staff falling over each other to be helpful The food was really good and sufficiently unusual to make us want to try everything; which we almost managed in the three days. We had light classical background music and Irish folk songs – not a problem but silence would have been better for us. - Paul Hogarth - September 2019
In a class of its own. We were charmed by the hotel and its attentive staff. The manager has a gift for hospitality. The perfect place to unwind - beautiful gardens to wander round, spacious public rooms bedecked with flowers, lovely views. Its decor and the thoughtful, personal touches make it seem like staying as a guest in a country house. It richly deserves its reputation for fine dining; the service was efficient and seemingly effortless. The pretty little town on Adare a short drive away. But why stir when you can happily while away the hours in a shady spot in the terraced gardens or on a lounger in the full sun on the lawns? - Helena Shaw - July 2018
Great welcome: tea and biscuits and friendly. Beautiful clean areas; spacious accommodation. Meal delightful - service a little stiff at first but readily became relaxed. Breakfast again good: chatty service with cooked items lovely; not too much. - John Hood - June 2017
