Good Hotel Guide Review

'A bit of luxury in Snowdonia', this B&B has 'breathtaking views' over the Glaslyn estuary to the Rhinog mountains. A 'beautiful historic country house', its bedrooms are named after former famous residents. Shelley’s Theatre recalls the poet Percy B, who wrote Queen Mab here before doing a flit, claiming someone had tried to assassinate him. Miss Hilda’s room with a half tester honours Hilda Greaves, born at the Plas in 1855, aunt of Clough Williams-Ellis (see Hotel Portmeirion, Portmeirion). The William Madocks room, with an antique four-poster, is named after the man who built both the sea wall (the ‘Cob’) and Tremadog itself, incorporating a small house on the hillside above town into the late Georgian villa of today. All rooms have a coffee machine, mini-fridge, Welsh toiletries. It feels 'quiet and secluded – another world'. Howard Mattingley and Mark White are 'warm and friendly' hosts. ‘On arrival we were met by Mark, who settled us in and arranged a lovely tea in the drawing room.’ In the morning, guests are served an 'excellent breakfast'.
