Graeme and Emma Clark’s hospitable guest house on the Isle of Islay basks in uninterrupted views over the Mull of Oa, while guests bask in the comfort and treats the hosts provide. Handsome bedrooms with tweedy touches are stocked with spoiling extras (Scottish-blended teas, Highland chocolates); a residents’ bar holds Islay malts and Scottish gins. In the evening, a platter of charcuterie, cheese or delicious local seafood with home-baked bread and oatcakes is available for the asking. Breakfast, and its whisky-laced porridge, wins awards. The consummate hosts have local knowledge to share, perhaps over a dram by the peat fire or a flight of gins. Close to the island’s small airfield, the guest house is a short drive from ferry terminals.
