Good Hotel Guide Review
Tucked away down a country lane, Tim and Janie Elwes’s inn is in ‘a beautifully rural setting’ yet close to the North Norfolk coast. The ivy-covered, 19th-century building was designed to mimic a Tuscan farmhouse; it has bright public spaces, glowing wood burners, and books and maps to browse. Simply and cheerfully decorated, bedrooms have a well-supplied drinks tray, and good Norfolk toiletries; a family room comfortably accommodates four people. Beers and gins are local; so too, are the roast leg of Wolterton lamb, and bouillabaisse of line-caught grey mullet, pollock and Brancaster mussels on the seasonal menus. Beaches, stately homes and day boats along the River Bure are all within reach.
