Good Hotel Guide Review

Roses festoon this family and dog-friendly 17th-century pub-with-rooms, in a thriving village close to the RSPB’s Snettisham Nature Reserve. ‘We’ve stayed several times and it just gets better,’ writes one reader. ‘Clean, comfortable, full of character', says another. Bedrooms are pretty, cottage-style, well equipped, with ‘everything you would want, including cafetière, home-made biscuits, fab shower’. On cold days fires burn in cosy bars. You can dine in the Cellar Bar, the Garden Room, or outside, from a menu of whizzed-up and staple pub classics – fishcakes, fennel and mooli slaw, saffron aioli; chargrilled steak, wild mushroom risotto. ‘Delicious food – Brancaster mussels and "variations of cauliflower” one night, good old fish and chips in the bar the next. All excellent value.' Owners Jeannette and Anthony Goodrich take such evident pride in their venture. Since adding a residents’ lounge, they have installed a new beach hut serving ‘street food’ in the garden, with the Merry Rose climbing ship. ‘Outstanding breakfasts’ include a Norfolk kipper, loaded croissants, eggs Benedict. Comments about The Rose & Crown

A fabulous pub in a gorgeous village, just a couple of miles from the sea. It has bags of history and character. Our bedroom was spacious and comfortable; the bathroom felt like a treat. The food was fantastic: some great-quality pub classics and a nice choice of specials, too - all reasonably priced. The generally young, capable staff were universally friendly without being in any way obsequious, and seemed genuinely to enjoy working there. - Steve Jack - September 2018
A delightful pub, with masses of small bar areas as well as comfortable restaurants. Our room at back was reached by a steep, narrow staircase but we found an easier, though longer, way to reach it subsequently. It was comfortable, with an excellent bathroom. Fresh milk available, always a bonus. Dinners were very good. It is the place of choice for locals. Breakfasts in the large garden room had a buffet table with dried and fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals, et,c as well as good freshly cooked food. All the staff were friendly and helpful. - Sara Price - March 2017
