‘Traditional pub, lovely atmosphere, fantastic staff and mouth-watering food’ sums up what readers think of this ivy-cloaked Georgian townhouse hotel, overlooking a riverside park by the Great Ouse. A buzzy lounge, bar and patio garden attract drop-ins, while the more formal restaurant serves food ‘cooked to perfection’. The menu mixes pub classics with dishes such as salmon tikki masala, Bombay aloo, fennel jam; ‘the best mushroom wellington’. ‘Wines are first class’; there is a wine shop. New owners the Chestnut Group know they’re onto a winning formula and don’t plan to make any changes. Some of the bedrooms have four-posters. Those adjacent to the ring road are triple glazed. Ground-floor rooms are accessed via the restaurant. One reader had ‘the most stylish fully accessible room’. ‘The river and townscape views are pleasant,’ writes another, who requested a quieter room. ‘The staff apologised for it being on the small side at the top of the hotel, but we found our eyrie more than adequate and very well maintained.’ There is lavish praise for the ‘friendly’, ‘courteous’ and ‘professional’ service. Very good to return. Very comfortable room - quiet overlooking the car park. Excellent meal and decent wines - so much so that we visited their wine shop the next morning and bought several bottles of the last evenings wine. Excellent service for such a busy place. Nothing wrong at all, no issues, wonderful. Is this too good to be true?

I will try not to well up as I write this but everyone at the old Bridge hotel was above and beyond expectations, nobody could help us or my family and friends enough and this was maintained throughout our stay and our wedding. The food was wonderful amazing local produce that just amazed everyone (even our morning toast and coffee was made special). The hotel rooms are immaculate and beyond comfortable If I could have snuck the pillows out of the room I would have done. Honestly 10 out of 10 is not good enough this place is easily a 20 out of 10 . I cannot recommend highly enough and we are local so we will be back as often as we can for food. Thankyou to all the amazing staff for all your incredible service.

My third visit in two months; drawn this time by John Hoskins's wine shop and an excellent £59 set dinner.
I was upgraded to a large double room with all that you could possibly want for a comfortable night. Now that the old A14 is closed the hotel is much quieter, and this will be a huge benefit when one can sit outside in summer. The breakfast is very good: tasty kipper fillets with mustard butter and lemon. The marmalade is tremendous -.

Comfortable busy (when we stayed) hotel with very good restaurant food and exceptional wine list, including wines by the glass. Good communal areas with a buzz.
