Good Hotel Guide Review
By the Groeninge museum, 50m from Market Square, Alana Boonen’s luxurious little B&B hotel is a 15th-century mansion on one of Bruges’s main canals. It is ‘visually delightful’, says a recent visitor: traditional Flemish colours, polished wood, and black-and-white marble chequerboard floors, and crystal chandeliers. Most of the individually-decorated bedrooms are spacious; some overlook the canal: ‘Our superior double, in the adjacent building, had wooden beams, brick walls, lovely furnishings, sumptuous bathroom, great views towards the town square.’ An attic room was ‘smallish but well equipped’. A canal-facing room was found noisy at the weekend. Breakfast, in a pleasant room, with big sash windows facing the street and canal, has meats, cheeses, fruit, omelettes, yogurt and a chocolate fountain. There is a small indoor swimming pool and sauna. Dissenters found the extras (parking, breakfast) add up and that the hotel is expensive.
