Good Hotel Guide Review
‘Amazing value. Genuinely friendly.’ ‘Our spacious, nicely decorated room had an attractive bathroom.’ Always liked for its old-fashioned ambience, this pension (for over 100 years) is on the upper floors of a 19th-century office/apartment block in the main pedestrian and shopping area. It is run by two sisters, Theresia Bernad and Susanne Gundolf, whose family has owned it since 1914. The high-ceilinged bedrooms have homely furnishings; some have a balcony; some see St Stephan’s spire, and buildings on and around the Graben. Double glazing cuts out street noise; flowers come from the owners’ garden. Rooms at the back are small. Breakfast is ‘a rich buffet’. ‘Cars and taxis cannot get right to the building: arrive with the minimum of luggage.’ There are lots of stairs, too.
