Good Hotel Guide Review
‘The location could not be better,’ says a visitor about this ‘lovely, smart hotel’, ‘central but quiet’, liked for both ‘elegance and value’. Privately owned, and managed by Norbert Klindert, it is in a small pedestrianised street close to St Stephan’s cathedral. ‘One of the most immaculately maintained hotels I have stayed in,’ was one comment. Other visitors found Reception ‘particularly helpful’. Public areas are traditional: oriental rugs on marble floors, big armchairs in the ‘delightful lounge’, with its glass dome and portrait of the empress. Most bedrooms overlook a quiet courtyard. ‘Our large, well-furnished room had two armchairs and excellent lighting.’ ‘A glorious bathroom.’ But one single was ‘small and overheated’, another had a ‘depressing outlook’. And ‘the heavy wooden doors echo loudly when guests open and close them’. Breakfast (7 to 11 am), in a ‘very Viennese’ room, is a buffet. Snacks are available during the day, and many restaurants are close by: Zum Weissen Rauchfangkehrer (the White Chimney Sweep) is particularly recommended. ‘Take all you need from your car: access to the garage is not easy.’
