Good Hotel Guide Review
‘Quiet, even by local standards’, the Romanelli family’s B&B hotel has long been loved by Guide readers. It stands at the end of a small street near St Mark’s Square by the Contarini Palace (Shakespeare’s setting for Othello). ‘A place of great character’, it has an ‘old-fashioned’ feel that is mostly enjoyed. ‘Magical as ever; stuck in a time warp of genuine hospitality, undisturbed by modern management-speak,’ said a returning visitor. Bedrooms vary hugely. Some are small, and some bathrooms are ‘cramped’. The best rooms overlook the courtyard, ‘full of greenery, busts, statuettes of angelic faces and monkeys playing instruments’. In this ‘oasis’, you can ‘take a quiet drink after sightseeing’. ‘Good breakfast: scrambled eggs and bacon at extra cost.’ ‘Our family room was large and comfortable’ (children are warmly welcomed). ‘Honest good service. ‘Outstandingly helpful desk staff.’ The Romanellis also own the Locanda Novecento nearby (www.locandanovecento.it).
