Good Hotel Guide Review
This small Tuscan hilltop hotel, much loved by Guide readers over many years, has been owned by the famous Della Robbia family since the 16th century. It is now run by Conte Corso Aloisi de Larderel and his French wife, Jacqueline. ‘They clearly love their inheritance,’ one visitor wrote. ‘No wonder so many people return again and again… more like a country house than a hotel.’ Another wrote: ‘The position is stunning, the garden a delight, the rooms individual and comfortable, the pricing keen and without exception, everyone we dealt with was most genuinely friendly and helpful.’ The swimming pool, tennis court and terraces are set amongst large rose gardens with views on the surrounding countryside, olive groves and vineyards. In the old winery, the restaurant serves typical Tuscan food and local Chianti wines. ‘The food is straightforward and all the better for that; fresh ingredients, always an interesting pasta dish. Wines are good value.’ Breakfast is served on a shady terrace. Bedrooms vary: The better ones are in the main house and the immediate surrounding buildings, but cheaper rooms in the garden have splendid views. There is superb walking and hiking all around.
